Les Obstinés
Book by Jeanne Tomasini
In 2004, at the age of 85, Jeanne Tomasini published her first novel "Les Obstinés" in France. Since then many more have followed.
Sinopsis
By describing Corsica, her country of origin, she imagined the story
of a local, very ordinary boy whose foolhardiness and fantasy spirit
makes him live extraordinary adventures.
The story is situated in a natural environment and takes place in a very
short timeframe in 1870, not only a period of important social and
political changes, but also the time of the industrial revolution.
It was particularly the end of commercial, wooden sailing ships. Most
of the small shipbuilders established along the east coast of the island
are going to die. It s the agony of the handicraft that nothing is going
to replace.
The emigration of the Corsican people to the mainland or to Algeria-newly
conquered-has already started. Corsica is about getting poor, the population
of the villages old.
This is what Marc Sebastiani will discover during his voyage throughout his
island, together with its surprising beauty.
